One of Brazil's graffiti pioneers, Speto aka Paulo César Silva has been doing urban art for over 3 decades. He began painting as a teenager in the mid-1980s along traditional hip-hop lines, but eventually developed his unique style with elements of Brazilian folklore. His work is heavily influenced by cordel literature (“string literature”). In his works, he also plays with carving, tattoos and hip-hop culture.
Speto belongs to the first generation of graffiti artists in Brazil along with OSGEMEOS. In the 1990s, he helped creating the visual identity for Brazilian bands Raimundos, Planet Hemp and O Rappa. His studio is located in Beco do Batman in São Paulo, a legendary graffiti meca. He has participated in several exhibitions around the world: Art Ba in Buenos Aires, Art Basel in Miami, Palais de Tokyo in Paris and The Wynwood Walls in Miami and Frankfurt. At Vulica 2016, Speto created the mural "Forever". At Vulica 2019, together with OSGEMEOS, he created the mural “3 Friends”.
